"Tats", a Tokyo native, joined Sterling Sound in 2007 as a mastering engineer and production engineer for Chris Gehringer. While continuing to assist Chris, Tats is now available to master projects as part of Sterling's After-Hours program. Tats' unique approach to mastering incorporates his extensive knowledge of recording, mixing and producing with his experience working side by side with Chris on many of the year's biggest hits.
In 2005, prior to becoming a mastering engineer, Tats received a Grammy nomination for Album of The Year for his engineering work on Kanye West's, "The College Dropout". In 2004-05, Tats' work contributed to 11 Grammy nominated records. As a recording and mixing engineer, Tats was one of the "go to guys" for many A&Rs, producers and artists, and he kept himself busy working on various domestic and foreign projects.
Tats received his Bachelor of Science degree from Bates College in Maine, majoring in biology. However, his obsession to audio eventually convinced him to pursue a career in recording and mixing, a career that started and flourished at Sony Music Studios from the time he began as a General Assistant (GA) in 1998. He quickly advanced to become an in-house assistant engineer who worked on many high-profile projects such as the Emmy winning live television tribute show to 911 victims, "Tribute To Heroes", to pop records such as "Invincible" by Michael Jackson, and the multi-Grammy winning effort, "Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill", by Lauryn Hill. As an assistant engineer, Tats worked with some of the best producers, artists and engineers in all genres of the recording industry.
As Chris Gehringer's production engineer, Tats has worked on many projects such as Rihanna, Nas, Nelly Furtado, Kelly Rowland, Lupe Fiasco, Kelly Clarkson, Q-Tip, Amy Winehouse, Drake, Madonna, and Lady Gaga's latest album, "Born This Way".
