In his years at Sterling, Will Quinnell has worked on a variety of great releases from artists such as Amy Winehouse, Luny Tunes, Mindless Self Indulgence, Kia Shine, Kevin Devine, Chico Hamilton, Freekey Zekey, Gerald Levert, Tito El Bambino, Atmosphere, Armor for Sleep, The Prizefighter Inferno, Tres Coronas, Dos Hermanos and Buju Banton just to name a few. Will Quinnell began his career in music working at Sony Music Studios in New York City. While employed at Sony he was also engineering in his own 80-20 Studios in Queens, New York, working with both emerging artists (Asobi Seksu, Black Moustache, etc.), and iconic musicians, such as Walter Schrieffels, Bobby Orlando and Jonah Matranga. Since being hired in 2001 as an engineer at Sterling Sound, Will has continued to work with these and many other artists mastering their recent albums. All of these artists have responded to Will's gentle touch, superb ears and ultimate respect for their work. On his list of mastering credits are some Billboard top 200 albums, including Atmosphere's "Seven's Travels" and Mindless Self Indulgence's "You'll Rebel To Anything". He's mastered albums for artists and labels of all genres and from around the world. Often asked the question, "what exactly is mastering?" Will calls on his experience as an amateur photographer and art fan to help clarify his mastering philosophy: "As much as I enjoy other people's photos, I find myself seeing things that I would have done differently in the darkroom. That's how I approach mastering; when you give me the song, it's the photograph, and when I listen to it, I'm listening to the highlights. I'm touching it up, making sure it's presented in the best possible way. I've detailed the photo and framed it." Will studied engineering at the Conservatory for Recording Arts and Sciences where he learned the theoretical elements of engineering. This is combined with an amazingly varied practical training as a result of his close relationships with mastering engineers at both Sterling Sound and Sony Studios.
